Pentecost X

O God be merciful to me a sinner.

This weekend marks the tenth Sunday after Pentecost and we have three Masses:

8.00 a.m. Leeds Cathedral, Cookridge Street, Leeds
11.00 a.m. Sacred Heart, Broughton Hall, Skipton
1.00 p.m. St. Joseph's, Pakington Street, Bradford

Mass for the feast of the Assumption of our Blessed Lady at Bradford was a beautiful occasion and had an attendance of nearly fifty. James, our seminarian sang the propers and Mr. Watson played the organ. Thanks to Canon Wiley for offering the Mass for us. This was his last Mass at St. Joseph's for a while as he now comes off the rota to take up his new duties in the Wakefield deanery, where I am sure he will be offering the traditional Mass at his new parish in Pontefract and Knottingley. Both churches are beautifully decorated and eminently suitable for celebration of the EF Mass.

The Assumption of our Blessed Lady

Thursday is a holyday of obligation and we have two Masses:

11.00 a.m. Sacred Heart, Broughton Hall, Skipton

5.00 p.m. St. Joseph's, Pakington Street, Bradford.
Unusually for a holyday this will be a missa cantata, thanks to our seminarian. James has offered to sing the propers and Mr. Watson who plays on the third Sunday will be the organist.
Please make yourself known to James who will be keeping us regularly updated on his life in Gricigliano. The diocesan Communications Officer agrees with me that this would make a good story for the website.

1.00 p.m. St. Joseph's, Pakington Street, Bradford - missa cantata

This week at St. Joseph's we will welcome Mr. James Baxter, a native of Bradford and old St. Bede's boy who will be leaving England in September to enter the Institute of Christ the King's seminary at Gricigliano near Florence. There he will commence his seven year course of studies towards ordination to the Sacred Priesthood.

Please chat with James after Mass who I'm sure will be pleased to discuss his vocation with you. In the meantime he will be helping with the singing or serving at Mass at St. Joseph's.

I think it is important that we help James in his studies and here is the link to the giving page:
