Pentecost IV

Masses this weekend for the fourth Sunday after Pentecost:

Saturday 15th. June St. Mary's, Gibbet Street, Halifax, 6.00 p.m.
Sunday 16th. June Sacred Heart, Broughton Hall, 11.00 a.m.
                             St. Joseph's, Pontefract Road, Castleford, 3.00 p.m.
Holy Spirit, Bath Road, Heckmondwike, 4.00 p.m.

Reminder that next week (23rd. June) we have a Missa Cantata at St. Joseph's, Bilton, Harrogate at 4.00 p.m. A faithful parishioner has been doing all the spade work to organise our Masses over recent months there and I am very grateful to him. It has been of some concern to me that some priests in the Harrogate deanery have refused to advertise these Masses, as if there has been no Summorum Pontificum. Alas some clergy are still locked in a 1970s time warp. I have no desire to invite controversy but such pastors really do need to take a reality check and realise that orthodoxy didn't end with Vatican II and that the Ordinary and Extraordinary Forms of the Mass can co-exist in harmony. We still profess the same Creed and follow the same Catechism - or do we?

An evening of Sacraments

Just over two dozen people attended Mass for the Sacred Heart at the church of the Immaculate Heart in Leeds this evening - and a very pleasant festal Mass it was - thanks to Fr. Wiley, the Dean of North Leeds for this and also for having conferred the Rite of Confirmation on two young lads beforehand.  The lads are regular servers at our Masses around the diocese. Mgr. Wilson, the Vicar Capitular (or Diocesan Administrator in newspeak) had sent special permission for this Sacrament to be conferred this day by Fr. Wiley and in accordance with the books of 1962 in the absence of an Ordinary. The boys had their confessions heard before the ceremonies, as did others.
We sang Come Holy Ghost before the Confirmation and Sweet Heart of Jesus at the conclusion of Mass, with a Salve Regina and the Tantum ergo in and amongst.
The boys took the names Benedict and Dominic.
Deo gratias!

This week

Corpus Christi Sunday

Come to the banquet!

It has been half term and a long week. My father in law's requiem Mass went ahead faultlessly followed by burial at Bradford's historic Undercliffe Cemetery. We are all grateful for the kind wishes and Masses.

This weekend we observe the external solemnity of Corpus Christi.

Masses - Saturday - St. Mary's, Gibbet Street, Halifax. 6.00 p.m.
Sunday - Sacred Heart, Broughton Hall, Skipton. 11.00 a.m.
                                St. Joseph's, Pontefract Road, Castleford. 3.00 p.m.

(Holy Spirit - Heckmondwike is still out of use but Fr. Abberton assures me that the normal schedule will be resumed as soon as possible after removal of the scaffolding.)
