All Saints and All Souls

Image result for all saints day

Please remember that Tuesday is the holy day of obligation when we give glory to God as we remember and thank Him for those who have gone before us now sharing eternity with him in heaven.
On All Souls we remember and pray to God especially for those good souls who haven't yet been purged of  all their sins and are still waiting to see God in all His glory and to be eternally happy with him. Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.

Wednesday - All Souls:
9.00 a.m, 10.00 a.m. and 11.00 a.m.  Sacred Heart, Broughton Hall, Skipton
5.00 p.m. St. Joseph's, Bradford

There was a very good attendance at Mass on Sunday and many people commented on how uplifted they felt afterwards. Mr Watson played the missa viii as well as the Adoro te devote and a rousing Hail Redeemer at the end. It was a truly festive atmosphere and it was good to see old and new faces again. It is always very pleasing to see families with small children and babies at Mass; this particularly always strikes me  at the Notre Dame de Fatima chapel near Lille which is under the jurisdiction of the Institute of Christ the King. Throngs of little children are brought by their parents and it is a pleasure to see everybody mingling outside afterwards as the toddlers run about and the adults chatter away.

Christ the King

Image result for christ the king

We were blessed with fine autumnal weather on Tuesday at  Bewerley Grange which attracted a good twenty souls for the feast of St. John of Beverley. It was good to see new and old faces and in one case Mr Jim Carroll who is our oldest active member.

Masses for the Feast of Christ the King, which in the 1962 calendar is always the last Sunday of October are as follows:

11.00 a.m.  Sacred Heart, Broughton Hall, Skipton
12.30 p.m. St. Joseph's, Bradford (with missa de angelis)

This week we have the feasts of All Saints and All Souls. Masses are as follows:

Tuesday - All Saints:
11.00 a.m.  Sacred Heart, Broughton Hall, Skipton
5.00 p.m. St. Joseph's, Bradford

Wednesday - All Souls:
11.00 a.m.  Sacred Heart, Broughton Hall, Skipton
5.00 p.m. St. Joseph's, Bradford

Also on Wednesday there is another lecture at Wheeler Hall, Leeds Cathedral at 7.00 p.m. This month Mrs Rowan Morton Gledhill (the Bishop's press secretary) will speak on the topic "Evangelizing Auntie" which is an insider's view of how Catholicism is understood and portrayed at the BBC, and how Catholic broadcasters and contributors can- and must- take the initiative to make the media work for them.

There are three Masses this Sunday for the twenty-second after Pentecost:

8.00 a.m. Leeds Cathedral, Cookridge Street, Leeds
11.00 a.m. Sacred Heart, Broughton Hall, Skipton

Despite the baby's parents suffering from food poisoning last week the baptism went ahead last week and the baby "behaved" herself with very little crying.

Pentecost XXI

Image result for 21st sunday of pentecost
Masses this Sunday for the twenty-first after Pentecost are as follows:

Sacred Heart, Broughton Hall, Skipton. 11.00 a.m.
St. Joseph's, Pakington Street, Bradford. 12.30 p.m. (Sung)

Following the Mass at St. Joseph's the baptism of Thea Alexandra Illingworth will take place.

Things are continuing well at St. Joseph's and it is lovely to see so many children there. Even crying babies!

May I just apologise for having forgotten to advertise the Batley Torchlight Procession last week? One of my colleagues did go, however and said that her family couldn't fit into the church and had to stand outside as it was so very well supported. Many of us will remember the Masses we had, often daily, at St. Mary's in Batley a few years ago. The procession was of course resurrected under Archbishop Roche and is a great witness to the Faith.

Notice - there will be Mass at Bewerley Grange chapel near Pateley Bridge on Tuesday 25th. October at 11.30 a.m.

I have not had time to find out how the Cathedral lecture went on Wednesday as I was unable to attend. I am however looking forward to hearing Rowan Morton Gledhill's next Cathedral lecture in November when she will talk about the BBC. I love as much as I loathe about the BBC but continue to regard it as part of the family.
