This weekend and announcements

This weekend sees two important feasts.

Friday is the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and there will be Mass at Sacred Heart, Broughton Hall, Skipton at 10.00 a.m.

Saturday is the Feast of Ss Peter and Paul (not a holy day of obligation) and there will be Mass again at Broughton Hall - but at 10.30 a.m.

Sunday marks the external solemnity of the Feast of Ss Peter and Paul and we have two Masses:

11.00 a.m. Sacred Heart,  Broughton Hall, Skipton
12.30 p.m. St. Joseph's, Pakington Street, Bradford

Announcements

Due to the clergy moves this year, some of which have already come into being I have visited the bishop because of the effect it would have had on the availability of priests to offer Mass for us at St. Joseph's. The bishop was very helpful and he has asked another priest to join the rota who willingly accepted. The knock-on effect of priests having to come from their own parishes farther away means that from Sunday 21st. July the Masses at St. Joseph's on Sundays will now be at 1.00 p.m.  This information will appear on the bulletin at St. Joseph's this weekend and be announced each week until then at Mass there.

Some readers may remember Geoffrey Thornton who was a regular attendee at Killingbeck with his wife Mary, who died last year. Geoff died peacefully last week.  I will post details of the requiem when I have them. May he rest in peace.

Also please remember Agnes Rutherford who is a former representative of the Latin Mass Society in Leeds before Gerry Lyons. Mrs Rutherford is currently in hospital but is responding well to the treatment. Please pray for a full and speedy recovery. Our Lady, Health of the sick, pray for her.

I am delighted to say that the Institute of Christ the King has accepted a seminarian from Bradford to commence his studies in the autumn. Mr James Baxter who is a linguist has been spending time at the ICRSP house of discernment in Preston whilst in his final year at Newcastle University. James sometimes serves Mass at St. Joseph's, Bradford when he is at home in Shipley. I hope to meet James soon and will keep readers updated as he progresses through his time at seminary. Please remember James in your prayers. St. Francis de Sales pray for him.

I am always very grateful for the ICRSP when we are near Lille because of the wonderful sung Mass there on Sundays where the altar boys start at about four years old - trudging around with heavy torches and very long sleeved cassocks. A sermon I barely understand enough to even slowly translate to the children is one I am again looking forward to.

Congratulations Archbishop-elect John Wilson

Congratulations to Bishop John Wilson who has accepted the post as Archbishop of Southwark. Mgr Wilson was very popular here in the Leeds Diocese when he was the Apostolic Administrator before Bishop Stock arrived. Needless to say he was always very kind to us - for example giving Canon Wiley faculties to confirm some children in the Extraordinary Form when we were without a bishop. He follows bishops Hinsley, Heenan, Dwyer and Roche who all worked in this diocese and became archbishops.

Ad multos annos!

Archbishop-elect John Wilson

Notitiae

I was away a couple of weeks ago when the death of Fr. Canice McGinn, Parish Priest of St. Matthew's, Allerton, Bradford, was announced.
A very diligent pastorally minded priest Fr. McGinn was an EF celebrant for us for a considerable time at Killingbeck chapel in the late 1980s, as he was a priest of that deanery. He was always incredibly cheerful, likeable and positive as well as being very popular with all those hearing his Masses. May he rest in peace. Fr.'s funeral will be offered at noon on Wednesday 12th. June at  St. Matthew's, Saffron Drive, Allerton Bradford. This will be Mass in the Ordinary Form.

For anybody in Warrington at the end of the month, I have been asked to advertise the following:

Please remember that we have EF Masses at the Cathedral at 8.00 a.m. next Sunday (Trinity) as well as Masses at Broughton and Bradford. Confessions at call.
