Week beginning 20th. June

Our Corpus Christi procession after the 1.00 p.m. Mass at St. Patrick's on Sunday was a successful and memorable occasion and my wife said that several passengers in cars filmed or photographed the procession. A variety of Eucharistic hymns was sung as about 50 of us accompanied the Blessed Sacrament around the block and back to church for Benediction.

Thank you to the gentlemen who assisted in carrying the canopy. There had also been a procession earlier through the streets round St. Joseph's in Manchester Road - our old venue.

PLEASE NOTE THE FIRST FRIDAY MASS AT ST. JOHN'S HAS BEEN CANCELLED AS MGR GROGAN IS TO BE AWAY.

This week marks the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.  We shall sing the National Anthem after Mass next Sunday at St. Patrick's.

The Holy Father announced the elevation of Archbishop Roche, our bishop emeritus, to the cardinalate at a consistory to be held in August. Ad multos annos!

Cardinal Arthur Hinsley, of happy memory,  is another Yorkshireman  who was made a Cardinal and I was privileged  to attend the Bradford school named after him. Hinsley had originally founded St. Bede's Grammar School in Bradford. Cardinal Hinsley Grammar School at Tong was built in the 1960s to accommodate the bourgeoning post war Catholic community in South Bradford. Sadly the school no longer exists. The much diminished Catholic community in Bradford is a sad sign of the post-conciliar times.

Next month sees the Feast of Corpus Christi and we are marking the occasion with a procession of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction following the Mass at St. Patrick's.

Thanks to Fr. Frantisek for yesterday's sung Mass. Over the last few years I have only heard very few pro-life sermons, but his sermon is the best I have ever heard on this important subject. He pulled no punches and called out abortion for what it is. It was also very encouraging to see so many new faces at Mass.

Judica me

Passion Sunday has as its Introit  parts of psalm 42 usually recited as part of the prayers at the foot of the altar. These are now pruned out until Easter and we see the veiled crucifix and statues. Christ seems to go into hiding as the Gospel narrates.

Ukraine

 

As Ukraine finds itself in an appalling and dire situation please remember to pray for this country. Putin is a menace and must be stopped. 

Many of my old teachers and schoolfriends are of Ukrainian extraction and my heart goes out to them and their friends and families.

Ossett

Fr. Aladics has contacted me to say that he is feeling suitably recovered to start offering  Mass again starting NEXT Sunday 20th February. The virus really knocked him for six. It is gratifying that Fr. is back in action.

Septuagesima

This Sunday is Septuagesima and marks the start of the pre Lent season and it is only three weeks to the first Sunday in Lent.

I am still unsure as to the situation in Ossett and will provide details as soon as I have any.
